Why did Bali roam around for 6 months holding Ravana in his armpits?
Bali had received a boon from Lord Brahma himself that whoever challenges him for a fight, half of his might will come inside Bali. That’s why it was impossible to defeat him from the front.
Ravana was the king of Lanka who had subdued many kings on the strength of his might. Ravana had received a boon from God himself that he would not die from any deity, asura, demon, eunuch, Gandharva, Yaksha, snake, snake, Garuda etc. but he did not ask for human and monkey in this boon. Since Bali was a vanara, Ravana could have died at his hands.
Envious of the mighty Vali, Ravana challenged him, and a fierce battle ensued between the two. Only then, as a boon, half of Ravana’s power entered inside Bali, due to which Bali defeated Ravana. After that he imprisoned Ravana in his prison and started insulting him everyday.
Bali used to come every morning to Kishkindha by circumambulating the sea in all the four directions and used to worship the Sun God. Then Bali would roam around in all the four directions by pressing Ravana, the king of Lanka, in his bosom and would embarrass him in front of everyone. This action was repeated by Bali continuously for 6 months.
