The legend of the birth of Shri Ram! “Ram Navami”
According to mythology, the incarnation of Lord Rama took place in Treta Yuga. King Dasaratha of Ayodhya performed the Putreshti Yagya and obtained Kheer from the Yagya. Dasaratha gave the kheer to his beloved wife Kaushalya. Kaushalya gave half of it to Kaikeyi, after which both of them gave half of their share of kheer to the third wife Sumitra.
Lord Shri Ram was born from the womb of mother Kaushalya in Punarvasu Nakshatra and Cancer ascendant on Chaitra Shukla Navami by consuming this kheer. Similarly Bharata from Kaikeyi, Sumitra gave birth to Lakshmana and Shatrughna.
Ram Navami Puja method is as follows…
On Ramnavami, waking up early in the morning, water is offered to the sun. After this, Maryada Purushottam’s fast is observed for the whole day with rules and restraint. Along with this, Laxman, Mata Sita and Hanuman ji are worshiped and aarti is performed along with Ram Darbar i.e. Lord Shri Ram.
On the occasion of Ram Janmotsav, Brahmins and other people are fed and Prasad is distributed. Ramcharit Manas is recited on this day. It is believed that fasting on the day of Ram Navami brings happiness and prosperity and destroys sins and evils.
